This Old VW Bus

Repair, Preservation and Upgrades

Back from a Winters Rest!

Sorry that I haven’t written in a while, but I’m not a fan of the cold winter months. I like to hibernate indoors instead of working outside in the frigid weather.

I have many projects ahead of me this year with the VW Bus.

  1. First of many is replacing the outside door mirrors. The driver’s door mirror glass is faded and it’s looking worn out. The passenger’s door mirror glass has been missing, I have an old air-cooled bug mirror taped to mine, so there is a mirror glass making it legal.

2. Making the missing kick panels in front of the driver and passenger’s legs out of wood paneling and possibly making new door panels out of the same wood paneling.

3. How to revive old faded paint and make it smooth and shiny from wet sanding and compounding while leaving the beautiful patina from old age.

4. Replacing rear wheel cylinders, brake hoses, brake shoes, parking brake cables. This section will involve removal and installation.

5. Installing a new tent for the Westfalia pop-top. This section will not include the removal of it, because I removed it last year to replace it, and was sold a new tent that was too small. So, I don’t have one right now because that one was returned.
